“In the Footsteps of Elephant” mengikuti para pembuat film saat mereka mengabadikan perjalanan epik gajah Afrika melintasi gurun Kalahari untuk “Elephant” karya Disneynature. Tim menghadapi cuaca ekstrem, medan yang tidak dapat diakses, perairan yang dipenuhi buaya, dan pertemuan dekat dengan singa untuk menyoroti makhluk luar biasa ini dan migrasi purba mereka. Memfilmkan hewan darat terbesar di dunia bukanlah tugas yang mudah.
Untuk memulai petualangan pulang-pergi 1.000 mil mereka, tim Disneynature harus terlebih dahulu mengangkut kru, bersama dengan lima ton perlengkapan kamera, ke jantung Delta Okavango, oasis terpencil tempat gajah berkumpul setiap tahun. Tantangan mereka selanjutnya adalah menemukan gajah. Dan terlepas dari ukurannya yang luar biasa, menemukan gajah di area seluas hampir 4.000 mil persegi seperti menemukan jarum di tumpukan jerami. Untungnya bagi pembuat film, seorang ahli biologi lokal yang melacak populasi gajah membantu.
